I went down to Destin, Florida this month for the NANPA Summit. My good friend Ken Hubbard and I spent a few early morning hours at one of my favorite areas there.
This image from that morning is yet another example of how less is sometimes more, when it comes to photographic composition. Initially I had framed a shot showing these lines on the beach in the foreground and the waves hitting the shore in the background. But again, it seemed a little too busy. So I kept subtracting elements by zooming in and getting closer, till I was left with only the patterns that caught my eye in the first place.
Then when I got home, I simplified it even more by converting it to black and white. (Of course I have to admit the b&w conversion may have been inspired by seeing some of Ken's incredible black and white work.)
